Teaching & tuition

I've taught Baroque flute and recorder for almost 30 years to all levels and ages around the world.

Music education has always meant a huge amount to me. I know how much it helps make the world a better place.

It's well-documented that learning an instrument can have huge cognitive and emotional benefits for no matter what age your are or what level you're at.

I've taught Baroque flute and recorder for many years to all levels and ages all over the world, whether one-to-one, workshops, masterclasses, or outreach schemes.

 London Performing Academy of Music

Recorder & Baroque Flute Professor

I have recently been appointed as Recorder & Baroque Flute Professor in the Department of Historical Performance at the London Performing Academy of Music.

Brook Street Band Masterclasses

I was involved in a series of flute and recorder masterclasses for the Brook Street Band.

Brook Street Band at Home: Meet the Instrument

As part of The Brook Street Band at Home series, I gave a series of presentations on the flute and recorder.

One-to-one tuition

I'm available for one-to-one online lessons for both recorder and Baroque flute. I cover all ages and skill levels, whether you're just starting or brushing up your skills. I've seen many of my younger students from beginner right through to professional level.

I have full DBS accreditation and undergo regular safeguarding training as part of my role as a freelance music teacher at Blackheath High School.

Breathing and relaxation

Music is far more than playing an instrument.

Workshops and masterclasses

Over the years I've run or been involved in many professional level workshops.

Outreach

Trio Tagarela.

I formed my own trio at the Academy, with which I toured the UK as part of Yehudi Menuhin's Live Music Now scheme, the Southeast Music Scheme, and the Park Lane contemporary music scheme.

The Southeast Music Scheme's Tudor Workshop led to me arranging the music for Trouble at the Tudor Banquet.

Handel House.

For two years I was part of the Ensemble in Residence at Handel House on Brook Street.

Multi-Story Orchestra.

I've also collaborated with the Multi-Story Orchestra in the Blackheath Halls Community Opera production of Benjamin Britten Noyes Fludde.

Brook Street Band

More recently I've worked with The Brook Street Band and The Cambridgeshire Music Education Hub to help bring music to young people.

Books

I also wrote the book How to Play the Recorder for DK publishing. It's used worldwide as a primer for children starting out playing the recorder. It brings together years of experience getting young children to start playing the recorder.
